Raleigh Klotzek will In this workshop teach you how to tie small brooms and brushes in Appalachian style. The small brooms, which are made by hand with relatively simple methods, are perfect to use at the work table, or as a beautiful gift for a loved one. You will learn the basic techniques for making Appalachian brooms and brushes with quite a few materials. This type of diet originated in the Appalachian Mountains of North America, and became widespread in the 18th century. Here farmers began to grow “Broomcorn” (Danish: “Ordinary sorghum”), which is a strong and durable plant fiber. Through the workshop, Raleigh will review various traditional binding techniques and styles. Students are given the opportunity to make 2-4 hand brooms. *This course is beginner-friendly.
