Ceramic Summer School for Intermediate

Dive into the world of ceramics at our summer school.

You’ll have time to experiment with techniques and develop your own projects. It will be a week off hands-on exploration and an inspiration trip to gather ideas from the world of art. This course is for those with prior ceramics experience whether you’ve attended one of our previous ceramic summer schools or courses or have worked with clay before. Throughout the week, we’ll also take time to move our bodies and enjoy a refreshing dip in the harbor. Each morning starts with some movement before we dive into the day’s focus, whether it’s exploring styles, shaping the clay, or decorating. We’ll eat lunch together every day at 12:00. If you have any allergies we should know about or any questions, send us a message at keramik@absaloncph.dk . THE WEEKS PROGRAM Monday 9:00-15:00 We start the summer school with breakfast. Then we head up to the workshop, where you can begin working with clay. If you need a refresher on some techniques, there will be a short introduction to coil and slab techniques. Tuesday 9:00-15:00 We start the day with a brief introduction to using slip (colored clay). Then we discuss shapes and proportions and do a small exercise. Later in the day, we will move together to loosen up our bodies. Wednesday 10:00-16:00 We go on an inspiration trip to Thorvaldsens Museum. After lunch, we continue working on our own projects. Thursday 9:00-15:00 We take a dip in the harbor before returning to the workshop to continue our work. Friday 9:00-13:00 We finish our projects and wrap up the week with a shared lunch. Would you like to glaze your own ceramics? If you d like to glaze your ceramics yourself, you re welcome to come by Absalon on Tuesday, July 28th, from 17:00 to 20:00 , where we ll be hosting a glazing workshop as part of the summer school. If you re unable to glaze on the day, Absalon s ceramicists will be happy to glaze your ceramics for you. Practical Info The course lasts 5 days, from Monday till Friday in week 29. Most days we meet at 9:00-15:00, except for Wednesdays when we meet at 10:00-16:00 and Friday at 9:00-13:00. On July 28th, from 17:00 to 20:00, you can come by and get the opportunity to glaze your own ceramics. If you re unable to, Absalon s ceramicists will be happy to glaze it for you. The price per participant is 2000 kr. including 5 kg of clay, materials, breakfast on Monday and lunch on all five days. It is possible to buy drinks and snacks in Absalon’s café. The ceramic workshop is located on the 3rd floor of Folkehuset Absalon. There is no elevator. Wear clothes that can get dirty. Note that there are Ceramic Schools for Children, Youth, and Adults, as well as Creative Summer Schools. Make sure to check the dates carefully and purchase a ticket for the correct Summer School.
