Ceramics SUMMER SCHOOL

Absalon’s ceramics workshop invites you to a 5-day Ceramic Summer School.

Together with other ceramic enthusiasts, you will have the opportunity to learn techniques, play with materials and make beautiful, functional, artistic objects that you can take home. We will do a activity most days, like calm yoga/stretching and going on an inspiration trip. As a starting point, you will hand mold a jug and a vase using pinching, coiling technique and slab technique. You will also try your hand at colour selection and engobes. Absalon’s ceramicist glazes all your pieces after the course. We start most days by getting our bodies moving before we have to immerse ourselves in design and decoration. We have lunch together at 12:00 every day. If you have allergies that we need to be aware of or any questions, please write to keramik@absaloncph.dk . WEEKS PROGRAM Monday 9:00-15:00 We meet for breakfast at Absalon and then spend the day building a jug using the coil technique. Tuesday 9:00-15:00 We start the day by learning how to make a vase using the slab technique. There will be a half-hour movement session during the day. Wednesday 10:00-16:00 We go on an inspiration trip to Thorvaldsens Museum. After lunch, you will be introduced to decorating your jug and vase with colored slip. Thursday 9:00-15:00 For those who would like to, we will start the day with a swim in the harbour. After we will be spending the rest of the day in the workshop, working on new or ongoing projects. Friday 9:00-13:00 On Friday, there is an opportunity to put the finishing touches on the week’s projects. Would you like to glaze your own ceramics? If you’d like to glaze your ceramics yourself, you’re welcome to come by Absalon on Tuesday, July 28th, from 17:00 to 20:00 , where we’ll be hosting a glazing workshop as part of the ceramic school. If you’re unable to glaze on the day, Absalon’s ceramicists will be happy to glaze your ceramics for you. Practical Info The Summer School will lasts 5 days, from Monday till Friday, we have one both in week 28 and 31. Most days we meet at 9:00-15:00, except for Wednesdays when we meet at 10:00-16:00 and Friday at 9:00-13:00. On July 28th, from 17:00 to 20:00, you can come by and get the opportunity to glaze your own ceramics. Everyone can join, regardless of whether you have experience with ceramics or not. The price per participant is 2000 kr. including 5 kg of clay, materials, breakfast on Monday and lunch on all five days. It is possible to buy drinks and snacks in Absalon’s café. You can make pieces that are 25 x 25 cm. The ceramic workshop is located on the 3rd floor of Folkehuset Absalon. There is no elevator. Wear clothes that can get dirty.
